Orvieto, located in southwestern Umbria, Italy, sits atop a large butte of volcanic tuff. The city dramatically rises above almost-vertical tuff cliffs, which are fortified by defensive walls made of the same stone. Its history dates back to Etruscan times, and it was a major center of Etruscan civilization. The archaeological museum houses Etruscan artifacts recovered from the area.Orvieto is also know for its stunning Duomo di Orvieto a very impressive cathedral.
Lake Bolsena lies in the northern part of the province of Viterbo, known as Alto Lazio or Tuscia in central Italy. It is the largest volcanic lake in Europe.
